Follow-up message from Miriam of Sisters Not Strangers Coalition following the recent workshop.
Dear friends,
Thank you very much to those who attended our workshop on responding to the public consultation on the government’s ‘New Plan for Immigration’ yesterday. Sorry we missed some of you! But we hope our downloadable guide will help you respond to the consultation before the 6th May deadline.
Priti Patel is saying she wants to protect vulnerable women – but the New Plan would harm them. So we must push back.
Women for Refugee Women has created a guide to help you respond to the consultation in a way that amplifies the concerns of refugee and asylum-seeking women: www.refugeewomen.co.uk/campaign/new-plan-for-immigration/
The consultation is not straightforward. We think that is deliberate, to silence opposition. That’s why we’ve suggested you respond to just three questions. (Obviously you may want to respond to others, depending on your concerns and your capacity!)
And even if the government is not listening, we are listening. Please share your responses with us at sistersnotstrangers@gmail.com (and say if we can make them public), so that we can ensure that your voices are heard and kick-start a movement against these inhumane proposals.
You can contact us – at Natasha@refugeewomen.co.uk – if you have problems registering or writing your response.
We must #TellPritiPatel to rethink this harmful plan.
Thank you,
Mariam, from the Sisters Not Strangers Coalition
P.S. The deadline is 6 May – not long to go!
