On 10 August 2021, twenty-nine women and sixteen children of Women with Hope enjoyed a picnic in Lichfield’s beautiful Beacon Park. The park is set in the historic and beautiful city centre and is overlooked by the magnificent three spired Cathedral. The picnic, hosted by Lichfield Hope Support Group, Lichfield Quaker Meeting and a company of other friends and supporters, has become an established annual event. It took place for the first time in 2013 and has been organised every year since with the exception of Pandemic Year 2020.

Supporters in Lichfield provided food and friendship and Bridget Obi organised the transport and travel arrangements. Travelling by bus and train the group arrived in Lichfield City Station at lunch time and were met by Lichfield hosts and escorted on a short walk to Wade Street Church nearby.  Had the weather not been so kind the entire event would have taken place in the church hall as happened in 2019 when we chose the wettest day of August.

After a welcome by our Women with Hope Chair, Anthony Wilson, everyone adjourned to the park  for a picnic lunch. A variety of delicious, portable food and drink donated by the hosts  and others combined with friendship, sunshine and a lovely park and playground  made for a wonderful time all round.
